Find out which Indian state is on the top in Online Gambling?

According to a new study by ENV Media, India’s online gambling market is growing, all due to improving internet penetration and nationwide growth in mobile device use. Named India’s richest cities and large online gambling communities, the ENV Media report paired the secondary statistics with proprietary primary analytics data, providing insight into the “natural growth” of India’s online gambling market.

Which India is on the Top?

The report dismantled the states and cities of India with the largest online gambling penetration – the state of Maharashtra was the first place in India with the largest urban agglomeration, followed by Telangana.

Maharashtra leads in traffic generation with 17.4%, followed by Telangana with 9.9%, according to data released by ENV Media. Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi have around 8%, while West Bengal and Karnataka also performed quite well with a share of 9.3%. The data were based on publicly available statistics for the period 1 April to 15 September.

The report also points out that Maharashtra and Delhi are the states where teen Patti for real money is played mostly on a pre-internet basis, among other games like Online Andar Bahar real cash and Roulette online – “the three anchors of casual Indian entertainment”. ENV Media’s research notes: “Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, Bangalore, and Hyderabad are at the forefront. Pune, Ahmedabad, and Surat are also contributing relatively better to the spread of online gambling in India.”

ENV Media’s research comes amid reports that the state government of Maharashtra is considering legalizing online gambling to help replenish the state’s exhausted treasury. The government’s debt exceeded Rs 5.4 million in September 2020 and the current year looks much worse for Maharashtra’s economy given the halt caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in March.

Future of Online Gambling in India

The Indian gambling industry is currently operating largely in a gray environment governed by strict and archaic laws. Nevertheless, the gambling culture is booming, largely due to the country’s mobile-first digital market.

A 2019 Deloitte report on India’s digital media environment noted that “an increase in the number of internet users was also observed in rural and urban areas of India” and added: “Enhanced networks, better internet access, mobile devices for multimedia services and application development. Due to the ecosystem, more and more media consumption would occur on digital platforms. India has about 300,000 application developers and is already the second-largest Android development community in the world after the United States.”

It is also worth noting that the Indian market is dominated by young mobile users – the largest in the world – and this is a factor in the country’s efforts to spread and spread games. According to a research report by ENV Media: “So as long as potential players have a stable internet connection (especially 4G in India), they can enjoy online casino games, online sport betting and a wide variety of paid games. And because PC isn’t always a viable solution for most, the smartphone remains the preferred device for accessing i-gaming platforms and applications. “
